Postpartum Recovery
Your body has done something remarkable. Postpartum recovery deserves the same attention and care as the pregnancy itself - pelvic physiotherapy can support you as you grow into your next chapter.
What I Help With Postpartum
At Base Pelvic Health, I support people in the postpartum period with:
Urinary leakage, urgency, or frequency after delivery
Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms (heaviness, pressure, or bulging vaginally)
Perineal tearing, episiotomy healing, and scar tissue
C-section scar healing and abdominal recovery
Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
Pelvic or tailbone pain
Painful sex after delivery
Safe return to exercise, running, and high-impact activities
When Should I Start?
Early intervention can make a meaningful difference in postpartum recovery. I can support early mobility, provide guidance around gentle exercise and symptom management immediately post delivery. For any internal examination I do wait for the all clear from your care provider.
Whether you delivered two months ago or two years ago, it's never too late to address postpartum symptoms. I see patients at all stages of the postpartum journey.
Returning to Exercise
One of the most common questions I get is: 'When can I start running again?' The answer depends on how your pelvic floor and core are actually functioning, not just how much time has passed since delivery. I provide a thorough assessment and a clear, realistic plan so you can return to the activities you love safely and with confidence.
The Delivery is The First Step — Now Let's Support Your Recovery
We can experience leaking, prolapse symptoms (heaviness and pressure), pelvic pain and painful sex post childbirth - but these aren’t symptoms that you just have to live with. Pelvic physiotherapy can support your postpartum recovery so you feel confident as you grow into this next chapter.
New patients are seen within a week at my clinic in Cambridge, ON clinic. Virtual appointments are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pelvic Physiotherapy For Postpartum Recovery

An internal pelvic floor assessment is typically appropriate around 6 weeks postpartum, once you've been discharged by your care provider. That said, you don't need to wait until 6 weeks to be seen. I welcome postpartum patients earlier for guidance on gentle return to movement, pain management, and pelvic or low back discomfort in those early weeks.

Yes! Regardless of how you delivered, your pelvic floor and core go through significant changes during pregnancy and can benefit from postpartum support. C-section scar treatment addresses sensitivity, pulling, and movement restrictions at the scar site, while also rebuilding core strength and confidence in your body. Some people experience urinary symptoms and painful sex after c-section as well.

The answer depends on how your pelvic floor and core are actually functioning, not just how many weeks postpartum you are. Current evidence-based guidelines suggest a gradual return to running no earlier than 12 weeks postpartum, but individual readiness can vary significantly. A postpartum assessment gives you a clear, personalized answer rather than a guess.

It is never too late. Many patients come to me years or even decades after delivery, still living with symptoms they assumed were permanent. Pelvic physiotherapy can still help!
